The Elderly Social Hub provides a social space for elders from resettled communities to come together, network and enjoy activities together. The inaugural meeting was held in August 2021. Elders met for the first time to discuss the needs of the older members of their communities. The main issue raised was isolation, with a strong interest in activities that would enable elders to come together regularly such as visits to the park, cultural games, group trips and story sharing. Elders also voiced interested in educational sessions with different government departments and service providers. These ideas will inform the Elderly Social Hub program moving forward.
If you are interested in joining the Elderly Social Hub then just contact the Project & Innovations Coordinator Sandy Hildebrandt (e: sandy@arcc.org.nz , p: 09 846 0110). In line with ARCC’s vision for integrated resettled communities, the group is open to any elders, whether from a resettled community or any other community of Aotearoa New Zealand society.
